The most popular academic courses are American History, English Composition, American Government, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish. All of these courses satisfy core curriculum requirements at HCC and will transfer to any public college or university in the state of Texas as core curriculum. College algebra, art history, speech, introductory biology, and introductory chemistry may also be taught as dual credit and would transfer as core curriculum. As we grow, MCA will continue to expand the list of Dual Credit courses we offer. Student Eligibility All dual credit students, regardless of whether they intend to take academic, workforce, or college prep courses, must satisfy the following criteria: • Junior or senior standing in high school; • Passing TAKS scores; and/or • Appropriate scores on HCC placement tests (ASSET or COMPASS) The Southeast HCC campus works with MCA to arrange for the testing of students as needed. Please speak with the school counselor if you are interested in taking dual credit courses at MCA. MCA juniors prepare for SAT examBY ELIDIO MORENO
The SAT, one of the most important college requirements, will be administered on Feb. 27 at Mount Carmel Academy, a little more than a month away. MCA juniors are vigorously preparing for this test. For this reason, all of the Junior Advisory classes are providing SAT practice for them so that they can know what to expect on the real test. The SAT is important because it’s a test that is used by almost every university and college to determine their admissions. This test is also used to determine many other things, including financial aid, college grants and many scholarships. The days leading up to the test are challenging for many juniors because of how important it is. A good score can help pave the way for a successful future. MCA Is selling SAT practice books at an affordable reduced priced so that the students can have some out of school practice that they can do on their own. Also, there are many SAT tutors in the Houston area that will gladly help students to prepare for this exam. Even though SAT testing is in a couple of months, it is a great idea for juniors to start preparing for it so that when it is time they do not stress to much about it the day before. MCA senior Christopher Spears remembers all of the preparation required to succeed on the exam. “Well, I went and purchased an SAT practice book and worked out the problems which helped my mindset when I took the exam,” Spears said. “SAT classes are also another way to get great tips that can help you with anything that the test throws at you.” In addition to outside resources, MCA teacher Mrs. Smith will teach an SAT Prep course after school. |
